Del brings over 17 years of experience in public education to the Board, serving as a math and science classroom teacher in middle and high school buildings, science department chairperson, SACS accreditation team, Advanced Placement Coordinator, an athletic coach, and as a principal.
He is currently the Director of the NC Center for Afterschool Programs (NC CAP). NC CAP has over 5,000 afterschool and expanded learning programs impacting over 150,000 students K-12. Del was the Director of the largest federal partnership GEAR UP grant in North Carolina and the first University Liaison for Early Colleges at Fayetteville State University. He has held a district leadership position as a Transformation Superintendent in Michigan. Del was the Project Lead for Virtual STEM at NC Department of Public Instruction (NC DPI).
He received his undergraduate degree from Fayetteville State University (Biology) and graduate degree from Central Michigan University (Educational Leadership emphasis Charter School Leadership and Transformation). He is the first North Carolinian nominated to the national 2014 White-Riley-Peterson Policy Fellowship at the Riley Institute and a 2009 graduate of the NC Education Policy Fellowship Program (EPFP).
