It is an honor to be given the chance to serve in the midst of an organization such as NCSLA that makes such an effort to support growth and recognition for STEM education for both students and educators in North Carolina. After graduating with my B.S. from Virginia Tech, I anticipated a lifelong career in academia and research. Once my eldest son was born and we moved abruptly to North Carolina, however, I found myself in front of a classroom full of teenagers and was surprised at how much I loved it. Now, after spending over a decade at Ashbrook High School (Gastonia, NC) I have moved on to a Curriculum Facilitator position, supporting science curriculum and instruction throughout Gaston County and building a better understanding of STEM instruction and opportunities for all our teachers. Always a learner, I’m still finding ways to grow and explore the world around me by building an amazing PLN and making time and space for others to grow with me.
I currently live in Belmont, NC with my basketball-loving, math teacher husband Joe, two sons -- Lucas (13) and Archie (11), and a teddy bear hamster named Creamsicle.
