Dr. Gail Jones is the 2018 NCSLA recipient of the Michael C. Jackson Distinguished Service Award in Science Education. She is a Professor of science education at North Carolina State University with over 40 years of service in the state of North Carolina. She is an impeccable researcher, teacher, and educational leader in the formal and informal educational sectors. Her innovative approach in the field of science education and STEM has influenced the lives of K-20 students, teachers, adults, and parents across the United States and internationally. Gail has authored 22 books chapters, published over 50 referred articles, and acquired over 4 million in grant funding for science education and STEM initiatives. She is a proud graduate of Appalachian State University, Boone, North Carolina (Master’s and Bachelor’s in Biology) and North Carolina State University, Raleigh, North Carolina (Doctorate of Philosophy in Science Education).
The NCSLA Michael C. Jackson Distinguished Service Award is awarded to a person who has performed a great service to science education in North Carolina and honors the late Michael C. Jackson avid science educator and leader in North Carolina. The award is sponsored by Fisher Scientific Education
