A huge thank you to everyone who attended the 2017 NCSLA Fall Summit meeting on October 18th in Greensboro, NC at the Koury Convention Center. We were treated to fantastic speakers and a wealth of resources! The program, “Innovations in STEM Education in NC: Achieving Excellence, Discovery, and Transforming our Schools” focused on the STEM initiatives in the state of NC. NCSLA hosted a variety of speakers and a showcase of exemplary programs (download the list) that showcased the best STEM programs seen across the state.
Highlights of the Fall Meeting:
Del Ruff from the American Institute of Architects in Washington, DC was the first keynote speaker and shared "Crossing the STREAM (Strategies That Re-Engage All Minds)" by discussing techniques to engage students in formal and informal settings.
Dr. Sam Houston shared the latest findings in the "STEM Scorecard Report."
This year NCDPI did not have their meeting for science supervisors. Jami Inman, from DPI provided updates in science education at the NCSLA STEM Summit.
The NCSLA Herman and Emma Gatling Award winner for 2017 was Elaine Franklin.
This year we had 23 Showcase presenters that shared numerous ideas, tips, and strategies on STEM programs.
